Driver Registration Day

Driver registration day will be on Saturday April 10th from 9-11 am at the new Buster's Bar and Grill in Carleton Place (taking over the Broadways location).  Driver registration will be $100 for the season plus 5% GST.  The main reason we are holding it earlier this season is to stay ahead of the HST (13%) implementation.  Once May starts we will be affected by a pro-rated HST.  So come on out and support one of our advertisers for breakfast!  This is also a good time to purchase your season pass as they will be GST only as well.

Bandeleros to be shown off this season

Over the past few years in Ottawa there has been no car that can be used by our younger racing enthusiast.  Go Karting has long been the entry level class for racing and now there is somewhere for these kids to go or an alternative to get started in.

The Bandolero car is built like a miniature stock car.  It’s a turnkey spec series race car designed for drivers 8 to 15 years old.  Safety is the number one concern starting with a shock absorbing frame design all the way to the mandated HANS device.  The cars are manufactured by US Legend Cars in Charlotte, North Carolina who also manufacture the Legends car that is raced weekly at Capital City Speedway and all around North America.

Although it is not a full time class at Capital City Speedway this season, the support for a younger age group of racing has been overwhelming.  Todd Gow, who races his Legend car at Capital City Speedway, has already purchased a Bandelero for his son who has been racing go-karts for a few years.  They will be showing this car off at the track and turning some laps at intermission this season.

First Lap Sponsor in the Books

With the season just around the corner we have our first lap sponsor officially in the books.  We have many confirmed for the season but the first one to hand in a cheque is for the 4-fun class.  Lap 7 has been purchased by Arnprior & Ottawa Auto Parts Ltd.   With many lap sponsors confirmed, we still need more.  If you know someone or a business who would like to get involved, please have them contact Jeremy or Liz.

Track now available for rentals

With the warm weather here and the snow gone we can now offer the track up for rental.  Should anyone need to shake their car out or get the rust off the driver, we are offering a pre-pavement discount.  Since we are still on the old asphalt it will be $50 per hour and $125 for the day (non-exclusivity).  Please contact Jeremy at 613-863-6990 or jeremy@jmmotorsports.ca

Ambulance Service

Priority Patient Transfer service has been selected to provide Ambulance services for the season.  This is great news for the speedway as we will have a team onsite with an Ambulance equipped to provide any and all necessary services needed at the track on race day.

Busters Bar and Grill becomes official pub of Capital City Speedway

Busters Bar and Grill has signed on to become the official pub of Capital City Speedway.  They know the support that stock car fans show to those who advertise with their sport.  With that, they are putting their support with us at Capital City Speedway.  Busters will be responsible for the beer garden and concession stands at the track this year.  What this means for our fans and racers is great quality food at a very affordable price.  Busters currently has one location on Carling Ave. in Ottawa and will open a new location in Carleton Place around the first of April.

Buster's Bar & Grill is about great food in a relaxing and fun environment and getting to know your server on a first-name basis. Buster's is part of the community and a place the community can call its own. Come out and watch the game on one of their many HD televisions, play on the NTN, or take advantage of their many promotions.

Buster's is also committed to a 10% program for all race teams.  When you eat at one of their locations, give a team name and all sales will be tracked under that team name.  10% of each receipt will go on account for that team to use at a later date.

Local Driver is headed to the Million Dollar Legends Race

Dave Riopelle, who has been a regular at Capital City Speedway for many years, will be making the trip to Charlotte NC in July to go for the Million Dollars.

Recently Bruton Smith, owner of Charlotte Motor Speedway and US Legend Cars International (maker of Legends race cars) announced he is putting up $1 Million for a Legends race.  Our own Dave Riopelle is the first Legends racer to throw his hat into the ring and go for the big prize.  We wish you all the best Dave.

More new Cars

Well you may have seen that the 56 Mini-stock has been sold.  There will be a new driver in that car, but wait.....what does that mean for Miss Passineti.  Stay tuned for an announcement next week on this young ladies move up to another class.

Also, Dave Riopelle purchased two more Legend cars while in the states and has since sold them here to two new drivers.  The Legends class is really growing.

Hopefully we will have some news about a couple of local Late Model drivers making the return to Capital City Speedway.  Stay tuned next Friday for more announcements.

Schedule change for Legends Regional Qualifier

The Legends Regional Qualifier originally scheduled for Saturday September 18th will now be on Saturday June 12.  The reason for the change is to promote more cars to attend this event.  The Ontario Legends series has a scheduling conflict with the September date so we have moved it to the June 12 event which is an off weekend for our partnering series.  This should enable more cars to attend this annual event.

New Lower Front Gate Fees Announced

In an effort to promote a great night of affordable entertainment in Ottawa there will be a reduction in front gate prices for 2010.  With many other forms of entertainment raising rates, Capital City Speedway will see a reduction in the cost for fans to enjoy local Stock Car Racing.  Adult entrance will now be $12 and a new Student - Senior rate has been introduced at $10 for ages 13-18 and 65+.  Kids from 7-12 will only be $5 and kids 6 and under will be free.

Season's passes will also be available for all age groups.  Please refer to the "About Us" page for all pricing information.

With these new rates we are expecting to have many loyal fans return (at a  lower cost to them) while introducing a more cost effective form of entertainment for families.

Local Driver Justin Holtom wins several awards

As we look forward to the 2010 race season we must take a look back at one of the great stories from the 2009 race season.  By that I mean our own Justin Holtom.

Many racers have had magical seasons during which skill, hard work and good fortune combined to create something special. Justin Holtom had just such a season in 2009. Over the past few years, Canadian racing fans have been impressed by the talented Ottawa native, as he continues to gain experience in the ACT Late Model class at Capital City Speedway. For his efforts, he won Inside Track Readers’ Choice Award as Canadian Stock Car Up and Coming Racer of the Year for 2009. His efforts also earned him the prestigious Rookie of the Year award for the ACT Castrol Series.

Justin is young compared to his fellow competitors and that means he will be around the class for many years to come.  This is only the beginning of the accomplishments he will receive!

Look for Justin to compete very hard this season for the Drummond’s Late Model points Championship.

Congratulations Justin
